Sylvia Wong is Director of Public Engagement at Concern Worldwide US. Since 2009, she has helped create Concern’s vision for education programs, advocacy efforts, and public fundraising initiatives. Currently, Sylvia leads a team that is responsible for raising $1 million through major gifts, individual giving, corporate engagement, and community fundraising. To support these goals, Sylvia founded and leads the Concern Leadership Network (CLN), which empowers donor activists and used human-centered design for its development. Launched in early 2017, more than 50 CLN members have raised over $160,000 in its first year for Concern’s programs in 26 countries. Sylvia also played a key role in visualizing and actualizing Concern’s newly-established Centre for Innovation & Health, which builds on an 8-year Bill & Melinda Gates’ funded Innovations for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health grant. Sylvia holds a Bachelor’s of Arts and a Bachelor’s of Education from Queen’s University in Canada and a Master’s of Arts in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University. Sylvia has seen Concern’s work in action in Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, and Haiti.

Helene Hetrick (Lanie) is a Public Engagement Officer at Concern Worldwide. Before joining Concern, Helene was digital marketing manager at PlaceIQ, an advertising technology startup focused on understanding consumers through the lens of location. Prior to that, she began her career at an NYC-based startup that partnered with Con Edison to help New Yorkers use energy more efficiently. A graduate of Indiana University’s School of Journalism, Helene was a four-year, Division 1 distance runner for IU’s cross country and track teams. In 2012, she furthered her passion for sustainable development through a travel scholarship in Scandinavia. Helene currently lives in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, with her husband Zach.
