Podcasting: a closer look

Featured Speaker: Lochlainn Harte

Lochlainn Harte is a highly accomplished audio production professional with over 20 years of experience in various areas, including music production, podcasting, radio, online media, and groundbreaking audio installations. Based in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, Lochlainn has established himself as a prominent figure in the industry.

Currently, Lochlainn holds the position of Imaging Manager at Newstalk, a full-time role he has been dedicated to since November 2021. In this capacity, he brings his extensive expertise and creative flair to oversee and lead the imaging department, ensuring the delivery of top-notch audio production for the radio station.

Alongside his role at Newstalk, Lochlainn also maintains an active freelance career, leveraging his skills as an audio producer. For the past 10 years, Lochlainn has served as a trusted producer liaison, scriptwriter, music producer, music supervisor, and sound designer for various media outlets. He has been involved in all stages of production, from teaching and recording to editing, mixing, and mastering. Lochlainn's versatility and ability to deliver high-quality work have earned him a solid reputation in the industry.

Prior to his current roles, Lochlainn held notable positions at Today FM as a Production & Imaging Manager from July 2019 to November 2021, and at Classic Hits 4FM as an Imaging Manager from October 2015 to July 2019. These experiences further contributed to his extensive skill set and his ability to excel in managing production and imaging processes.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Lochlainn has also made significant contributions to education. He served as an Associate Lecturer at Dublin City University from October 2016 to October 2018. During this time, he was approached by DCU to develop and deliver Audio Production modules for the Social Sciences. Lochlainn's curriculum emphasized creativity, basic principles, and the importance of producing work that would empower students when entering the working world.

Throughout his career, Lochlainn has worked with renowned media organizations, such as Spin 1038, SPIN South West, USP Content, Avatar Audio Post Production, Athena Media, and Digital Audio Productions. In these roles, he has undertaken diverse responsibilities, including commercial production, imaging management, studio editing, sound engineering, and sound recordist duties. Lochlainn's dedication to quality, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively have contributed to the success of numerous projects.

Beyond his impressive professional background, Lochlainn Harte has been at the forefront of driving the podcast industry in Ireland. His expertise and dedication have led to remarkable achievements, including the production of several highly successful podcasts, with three number one podcasts in Ireland in the last 18 months alone: "Inside the Crime" (Season 1 and 2), "Unusual Suspects," and "As I Remember It: Bertie Ahern & the Good Friday Agreement." These captivating series have captivated audiences, earning widespread popularity and critical acclaim.

With his combination of technical expertise, artistic vision, and interpersonal skills, Lochlainn Harte continues to be an invaluable asset to the audio production and podcasting industry.
